If it feels like pickleball is everywhere right now, you’re not wrong.

Across the country, people of all ages are picking up paddles and heading to the courts, not just for exercise, but for something many of us have been missing: connection. In a time when it’s easier than ever to feel isolated, pickleball has quietly become one of the most powerful tools for building community.

Here in Northern Nevada, Neighbor Network of Northern Nevada (N4) is taking that idea even further.

More Than a Game

Pickleball’s appeal is simple. It’s easy to learn, welcoming to beginners, and adaptable for all ages and abilities. But what really sets it apart is what happens between the points:

  • Conversations at the net
  • Encouragement between players
  • Laughter that carries across the court

It’s not just about staying active. It’s about showing up, being seen, and connecting with others.

And that’s exactly what N4 has been building for the past 11 years.

Eleven Years of Neighbors Helping Neighbors

For more than a decade, N4 has been creating opportunities for people to support one another, whether that’s helping with everyday needs, building friendships, or creating spaces where everyone feels welcome.

Their work focuses on bringing together:

  • Older adults
  • People with disabilities
  • Families and caregivers
  • Community members of all ages

Because strong communities don’t happen by accident. They’re built through relationships.

As N4 celebrates its 11th anniversary, the focus isn’t just on looking back. It’s on continuing to grow a more connected, inclusive Northern Nevada.

Movement, Health, and Belonging

We often think of exercise as something we do for our physical health. But activities like pickleball offer something more:

  • Improved mental well-being
  • Reduced social isolation
  • A sense of belonging

For many, especially older adults and those who may feel disconnected, something as simple as joining a game can be a first step toward re-engaging with community.

That’s why events like this matter. They create low-pressure, welcoming opportunities for people to participate—no matter their skill level.

Serving Up Fun: A Celebration with Purpose

To mark 11 years of impact, N4 is inviting the community to come together for a day of fun, movement, and connection.

Serving Up Fun, an anniversary pickleball party and fundraiser, will take place:

Saturday, May 16, 2026
10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Reno Tennis Center, 2601 Plumas Street

This isn’t just for experienced players. It’s designed for everyone:

  • Open play for all skill levels
  • Free (optional) lessons and equipment
  • Music and raffle prizes
  • A taco truck and community atmosphere

Whether you come to play, learn, or simply enjoy the energy, the goal is the same: bringing neighbors together.

Building What Comes Next

Funds raised from the event will support N4’s next chapter—expanding programs and working toward an innovative intergenerational community center.

It’s a space designed to bring people together across ages and abilities:

  • Older adults
  • Children and families
  • People with disabilities

A place where connection isn’t accidental. It’s built into the design.

Be Part of It

Pickleball may be trending, but what’s happening here in Northern Nevada is something deeper. It’s about using simple, joyful moments to strengthen the fabric of our community.

If you’ve been looking for a way to get involved, get active, or just meet new people, this is it.
